Pros and cons of online lash training course blog post image.

Are you exploring the idea of getting your eyelash technician qualification? Helping women feel more confident and widening your skillset is such an exciting path to take.

Once you’ve decided to take the leap, the next step is to choose what kind of course you’ll take. Nowadays, there are so many learning options – from classroom led, to virtual – there’ll be a course out there that fits perfectly with your lifestyle.

Let’s take a look at the type of courses on offer.

What are the pros and cons of private eyelash extension training?

Private in-person training means that you’ll be working on a live model, or mannequin, under the direct supervision of your trainer. Without other students to focus on, the trainer will be able to dedicate 100% of their time to helping you build your skills and correct your mistakes. They’ll also be able to answer as many questions as you have, which is great peace of mind for anyone who has concerns or feels nervous about starting training.

With private eyelash extension training, you’re more likely to enjoy flexibility when taking the course, as the trainer will need to arrange their classes around fewer people. It’s the perfect solution for anyone who is worried about training alongside others or who suffers from social anxiety.

It’s worth bearing in mind that private eyelash extension training is likely to be more expensive than group or online lash training; however, it is absolutely worth the investment if you can afford it. If you’re someone who prefers to learn in group situations, you may also find private training to be isolating.

However, if you thrive on learning one-one and your budget will cover the investment, private eyelash extension training is a wonderful way to learn to be an eyelash artist.

Should you choose group eyelash extension training?

A group eyelash extension course will feel like a familiar concept to most people – after all, we spend our school life learning alongside others. You’ll most likely be in a classroom setting, with peers also hoping to become qualified eyelash extension technicians.

Group learning is cheaper than private lessons and gives you the opportunity learn from fellow students, as well as the trainer. You’ll be able to listen to the questions your fellow students ask, learn from their mistakes and support each other throughout the course.

Who knows, you might even make some friends! As with all in-person training, you’ll have hands-on opportunities to work with mannequins and real-life models.

If, however, you’re somebody who prefers to learn alone or struggles in larger groups, group learning might not be for you. Although most eyelash trainers are very good at catering for every student’s needs, you will get less individual attention from your trainer when in group training. You will also need to bear in mind the cost of travelling to where the training is taking place and whether it is somewhere you can easily get to or not.

What about online lash training?

If you struggle with time or can’t find any in-person courses to attend near you, online lash training is a great option and comes at a lesser cost than private or group training. It’s really convenient, with no need to travel to a class.

Sometimes classes will be pre-recorded, so you can watch them back in your own time without any pressure, as many times as you like. If the course is being filmed live, you can even request the recording to re-watch later, which is a real bonus if you have a busy lifestyle. This is also particularly useful if you’re a slower learner and like to take your time when learning new skills.

There are, of course, a couple of things to consider too. When it comes to training online, you won’t have access to a live model – although you could absolutely purchase a mannequin to practice on in your home. You’ll also have limited close interaction with the trainer. Whilst they may answer some questions, the trainer will likely have upwards of 20 people watching their class, so there won’t be time to give individual feedback to everyone.

When it comes to picking an eyelash extension training course, everyone’s preference will be different. Just ensure you do plenty of research before making your decision. Here at RM Lash Academy, we offer highly rated one-to-one training courses that are perfect for those who want to get their eyelash extension career off to the best start, and we will soon be launching an online lash training course for remote students.
